MVP: Magellan Voyage Project
"Round the world! There is much in that sound to inspire proud feelings; but whereto does all that circumnavigation conduct? Only through numberless perils to the very point whence we started." Ishmael in Moby-Dick

Thru Hiker
Luke Dellar, age twelve, is weary of his flip-flop life. He flies to his father's house in San Diego one month and back to his mother's house in Seattle the next. He's even more tired of taking pills for his hyperactivity that has worsened since his parent's divorce. A solution to his flip-flopping, pill-popping life? Run away and hike the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2650 mile, five-month journey from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.

Third-Grader-To-Be
Third-Grader-To-Be
I’m a third-grader to be, to be.
For grade three I’m ready, ready.
No more grade two for me, for me.
For I’m a third-grader to be, to be.

Shrinking Teacher
I saw my last year’s teacher.
Had she shrunk an inch or two?
It took me time to figure out,
She was no shorter... I grew.

The Arctic Ark
The Arctic Ark - a global warming story
By the year 2050, scientists say the entire Arctic region including the North Pole will be free of ice. Only one person, fourth-grader Tom Tucker, has asked the important question. What will happen to Santa?
Santa Claus is in trouble. Global warming has wreaked havoc upon his home on the North Pole. The toy factory roof leaks. The reindeer barn is flooded, and the snow is too slushy for safe sleigh take-offs. In order to be ready for Christmas Eve, Santa has no choice. He must move. His helpers will build a ship, the Arctic Ark, and from there Captain Claus can prepare for Christmas. A-ho-ho-hoy!
Dad's Going to Make It
Dad’s Going To Make It
Dad phoned from the East Coast,
While waiting for a flight home.
He said that he'd make it,
To my school play tonight.
Dad phoned from an airplane,
Somewhere in the air.
Then he gave his promise,
Tonight he would be there.
Dad phoned from the airport.
His plane had landed late.
The time was six-thirty.
My play began at eight.
Dad phoned from a taxi,
Stuck in a traffic jam.
He said I was important.
I said I know I am.
Dad phoned from our kitchen.
He told me not to worry.
Ten minutes till show time.
I said he better hurry.
When the curtain went up,
On stage I searched the place,
As I spoke my first line,
I saw Dad’s smiling face.
