Topsy-Turvy Time
Staying inside all day was bad.
Now it’s good.
Joining friends for play was good.
Now it's bad.
Hours online on your seat was bad.
Now it's good.
A handshake when you greet was good.
Now it's bad.
Covering your face indoors was bad.
Now it's good.
Reusing a bag in stores was good.
Now it's bad.
A few examples that I'm,
Living in topsy-turvy time.
Halloween Masks
Creepy, eerie, frightening,
Dressed for Halloween.
But the careless costumes with no masks,
Were the scariest ones I’ve seen.
Our Teacher’s Messy Bedroom
A fun part of having class on Zoom.
Is seeing our teacher’s messy room.
Parents Overbored
They lay around all day and stew.
They argue, mope, and whine.
They gripe about what they can’t do,
And drink a lot of wine.
They get up late and later snooze.
They binge watch our TV,
They shout at what is on the news,
And Web surf endlessly.
Locked down parents are never fun.
How they need to be freed.
I wish they’d do as I have done,
Grab a good book and read.
Quiet, Please
The blaring of leaf blowers,
The roaring of lawn mowers,
The chop chop of winter logs.
The yap yap of barking dogs.
The bangs of trash bins rolling.
The clangs of alarm bells tolling.
Quiet, grownups!
Please a little concern.
I’m inside online trying to learn.
See in 3-D
We all can’t wait to see,
Our friends again in 3-D.
For far too long all we’ve seen,
Pics on a computer screen.
2-D flat ,just long and wide,
We never see the other side.
Someday we know we won’t mind,
If you seek up to us from behind.
We’ll join hands, dance and sing.
We’ll hug and laugh, not fear a thing.
We dream of when again we’ll see,
Our friends again in 3-D.
Six Feet
Two Hula-Hoops side-by-side,
How far four-square courts are wide.
Two giant steps, a gym mat,
Our teacher wearing a hat.
The height of the monkey bars,
The width of our parents’ cars.
Ninety Legos in a row,
Twelve of our shoes heel to toe.
A bathtub, the refrigerator,
My bunk bed, an alligator.
By this time we sure can tell,
How far is six feet very well.
Half Face
In this time of Stay-in-Place,
And we all wear a mask,
I can see just half a face.
What‘s behind them I ask?
Are they smiling or wearing frowns?
Do the cheeks have dimples?
Do teeth wear braces, or gold crowns?
Do the chins have pimples?
Does he have a bushy beard?
Does a ring pierce her nose?
Are the lips red? Are they sneered?
Perhaps a mustache grows.
Yet behind every mask I see,
Be the face old or young.
I fear they’re snarling right at me,
And sticking out their tongue.
Underwear
Mom said at supper are you aware.
Our family's laundry is all underwear.
These lockdown times are surely strange,
But our clothes at times we should change.
